At the helm of StarrGates Business Communications is professional copywriter Caryn Starr-Gates, whose career spans 30 years. Her experience includes writing retail fashion copy; promoting the launch of the world’s first 24-hour cable news network, CNN; ads and TV
spots for Anheuser-Busch, Ralston-Purina and ABC Television; ad campaigns and new product concepts for a diverse array of packaged goods products, banks, travel and entertainment accounts, and Turner Broadcasting.
Today, SGBC serves an interesting range of clients from the lifestyle, education, life safety, food service, retail and professional services fields. These businesses come to SGBC for sales and marketing materials, newsletter columns, articles, press releases, print and online ads, and website and social media content.
Finding Self-Expression through Community Involvement, Organization Memberships
Caryn Starr-Gates has been an active member of the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners (NJAWBO)-Bergen chapter since 1998. She served for seven years on her chapter board including two years as chapter president; and two years on the NJAWBO state board as vice president of membership, during which time she created several new awards to recognize members who contribute to the betterment of the organization. She is the Bergen chapter’s press release chair. Caryn was honored twice by the chapter with NJAWBO’s Teal Heart award for service “above and beyond” her area of responsibility (membership, president), and was its first Beacon of Light award winner for inspiring others to support and build the organization. In 2010 she was honored as the Bergen chapter’s Business Woman of the Year. Caryn is also a member of the Association of Women in Communications/New Jersey and the Business Marketing Association-NJ.
Outside of business, Caryn is an avid volunteer in her synagogue. She has served in several board positions including four years as president, plus treasurer and membership chair; she is also involved on the ritual and social action committees, and is the synagogue’s publicity chair. Caryn was honored by the NY/NJ region of the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation in 2003 for her work with temple youth. She serves on the Synagogue Leadership Initiative Advisory board for the United Jewish Appeal of Northern New Jersey. Caryn also volunteers as a weekly driver for Kosher Meals on Wheels in her town.
